The “Flaming Sword” NATO special forces exercises are held in Lithuania, in which 420 military personnel from 14 countries take part. About it reports TASS with reference to the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense.
The events involve military personnel from the Baltic countries, Poland, the Czech Republic, the USA, Great Britain, Canada, Denmark, the Netherlands and Norway, as well as from Ukraine, Georgia and Sweden. – as partner countries of the alliance. The Lithuanian Cabinet approved an exercise in mid-May. Among other things, NATO has received permission to deliver the necessary military equipment to Lithuania.
The term of stay of foreign military on the territory of the republic is set to July 7. At the same time, the Defense Ministry notes that the maneuvers will continue until June 30. Detailed information on the results of the exercises will appear after their completion.
Earlier in May, the large-scale NATO exercises “Summer Shield” were held in Latvia. They were held at the largest testing ground in the Baltic States and around Riga. Their main task is to improve the system of interaction between the units and to work out the procedure for managing aerial and ground operations.
In winter, during the exercises in Lithuania, the military of the NATO member countries were trained to survive in harsh weather conditions. Among the tasks assigned to them is to learn how to build shelters in cold weather, practice ice diving, and practice disguise their positions.
