IA Oreanda-News The leaders of several countries expressed their fears regarding the military operation declared by Turkey on the territory of Syria. Opinions were expressed at a meeting in Cairo.
Recall that in early October, Turkish authorities announced the start of a military operation aimed at the elimination of Kurdish forces in Syria. The areas where Kurds operate are located in the territory bordering Turkey. According to the Turkish leadership, these formations are supported by the authorities of the United States of America. America, in turn, said it would not take part in this operation – US troops would be withdrawn from the site of potential military operations. According to the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Syria, Faisal Mikdad, the Syrians are determined to defend their territories and will not allow aggressive actions against Syrian land and people.
The heads of states such as Egypt, Cyprus and Greece gathered at a trilateral meeting in Cairo. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, President of Cyprus Nikos Anastasiadis and Prime Minister of the Hellenic Republic Kyriakos Mitsotakis expressed concern over Turkey’s plans for Syria. Representatives of three countries called the military operation planned by the Turkish leadership illegal. They also spoke in favor of working together to preserve the territorial value of the Syrian state. According to information provided by Egyptian presidential administration officials, any attempt by Turkey to invade the borders of a neighboring state will be regarded as occupation, and actions aimed at changing the demography of Syria will be condemned.
It should be noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin earlier called on Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan to carefully weigh all the consequences before starting the planned military operation.
